A couple of prospect matchups plus a massive Big 10 showdown
There are only two top 25 matchups to notate in Week 10 of the college football season. But that doesn’t mean there won’t be any chaos ensuing as we head down the home stretch with conference play still in full swing.
The day starts with No. 4 Ohio State traveling to No. 3 Penn State for a key Big Ten battle that could go a long way to dictate who heads to the Big Ten Championship game next month. Ohio State has already dropped a conference game while the Nittany Lions remain undefeated. A loss for the Buckeyes would be a nail in the coffin, and it would be an uphill climb for the home team in this game with a loss as they’d lose control of their own destiny to make it.
Another intriguing ACC Top 25 matchup is on deck with No. 18 Pitt traveling to Dallas to take on No. 20 SMU. Both teams are undefeated in conference play thus far so something will certainly have to give in this one. Pitt went from 3-9 a year ago to having an outside chance for a perfect record regular season in 2024. SMU is enjoying a fantastic first year in the ACC after making the move from the AAC this year. It’s not often you see a team take a step up in conference affiliate and enjoy the kind of success SMU has had this year. It’s a key opportunity for the Mustangs to stay in the fight for an ACC title berth while Pitt can continue to build their own destiny with a win.
With the two primary games of the week highlighted, let’s talk about a few prospect matchups to know for week 10 and dive further into the Ohio State/Penn State game. Let us know in the comments who and what you’re watching this weekend.
Tantalizing Talent — Penn State RB Nick Singleton vs. Ohio State Defense
One of the shortcomings of the Penn State team is their lack of skill talent on the offensive side of the ball. Particularly, wide receiver is a position lacking in some ability to create for the offense and make a difference. The Nittany Lions have a strong duo of running backs with running back Nick Singleton being the most talented of them. Singleton is a former five-star prospect in the 2022 class. He’s got three-down potential in the NFL with plenty of pass catching ability and a sturdy frame to hold up in pass protection when need be.
He’s going to test ridiculously well in pre-draft testing cycle and his ability will likely track him into the top 100 when all is said and done.
Ohio State’s defense doesn’t lack talent in the front seven and generally down the spine of the defense with players like defensive tackle Tyleik Williams, linebacker Sonny Styles, safety Lathan Ransom, and others. The entirety of the defense as a whole may be the most gifted in the country. This is an excellent opportunity for Singleton against one of the nation’s premier defenses.

Game Wreckers in Ann Arbor — Michigan DTs Mason Graham & Kenneth Grant vs. Oregon IOL
A potential mismatch to monitor on Saturday is Michigan’s interior defensive line against Oregon’s interior on the offensive side. The Ducks have a quality pair of draftable tackles, but the interior of the line is viewed as a potential soft spot. Graham is a ridiculously powerful and explosive interior player who consistently makes eye popping plays look easy. Graham is excellent and will be able to be an every down player in an NFL defense. He’s one of the best run defenders in college football at 6’3” 320-pounds and his upside as a pass rusher is immense. Grant is just as athletic as Graham at 340 pounds, but he’s not quite as polished as Graham is. The production hasn’t quite caught up to the athleticism as of yet, but the flashes are wildly good. This is an excellent showcase spot to help boost his draft stock. Meanwhile, Graham feels like a lock to be a top 10 draft selection.

Game of the Week
No. 4 Ohio State @ No. 3 Penn State
Saturday, Noon EDT
FOX
Ohio State is one of the most talented teams in the country in 2024 led by a plethora of future NFL role players, starters, and stars. The Buckeyes enjoy two of the better backs in the country with Ole Miss transfer Quinshon Judkins and junior/homebred back TreVeyon Henderson. Both players are likely top 100 draft picks and could be taken top 50 overall.
Emeka Egbuka is the only receiver who plays consistently that is draft eligible in the group. He’s a high effort player who plays with plenty of toughness in every facet of the game. He’s highly productive and will have a chance to sneak into the first round in part due to his ability to complete the finer aspects of the game at a high level.
Left tackle Josh Simmons was looking like a real NFL prospect who also could have slipped into the first round, but his season is now over due to injury. Donovan Jackson is a highly talented guard for the Buckeyes.
Penn State’s most talented player on the team is edge rusher Abdul Carter. Carter has moved into a near full-time hand-in-dirt player after primarily lining up at off ball linebacker his first couple of seasons on campus. Carter may be a top-5 NFL Draft pick this coming April. Dani Dennis-Sutton is another talented edge rusher who operates as a jumbo end with a different style of game from Carter.
Kobe King is a talented linebacker for Penn State.
The Nittany Lions lost uber talented safety Kevin Winston Jr very early on this season, and he’s going to be remaining out for this game — a massive loss of one of the best safeties in college football. The team has been leaning more on Jaylen Reed in the back end with Winston Jr out.
Kaytron Allen completes the two-headed Nittany Lions backfield with Nick Singleton. Allen brings more thunder if Singleton acts as the lightning of the two.
Tight end Tyler Warren has been a constant for Penn State this season as the offense has been built around him with plenty of schemed receptions and even some opportunities for them to run their version of the Wildcat package.
Ohio State doesn’t have shortage of options on their defensive line led on the interior by Tyleik Williams. Ty Hamilton is another player with a rising stock this season. Former five-star prospects Jack Sawyer and JT Tuimoloau.
Linebackers Cody Simon and Sonny Styles are impact players for the Buckeyes as well. Styles, a former defensive back, may draw some single coverage assignments on Warren in some instances.
Cornerbacks Davison Igbinosun and Denzel Burke are both very good college players. While different in their skill sets, both are matchup issues for Penn State with their lack of receiver talent. Burke had a difficult game against Oregon this season, but it’s unlikely he’s exposed like that again by this Penn State team. Igbinosun is a ball of upside with intriguing physical traits to work with.
Lathan Ransom is an explosive safety with plenty of playmaking ability. He’s been held out with injury in recent weeks, but is expected back for this one.
