BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Size, speed, and physicality. East Carolina’s Shavon Revel, Jr. checks all the boxes that NFL teams are looking for in a cornerback.
At the NFL Scouting Combine, Revel, Jr. gave some unique insight into how he approaches covering different wide receivers.
“How they release on other corners similar to my size and my length,” said Revel, Jr. “Do they like to dance? Do they like to speed release? Do they like to push up on you? In the game, I like to read my receivers for like three plays. I just like to read my receivers and try to get a little used to what they like to do. I also change up my press technique so they won’t get used to me, so I kind of throw them off.”
But he’s more than just a cover guy. Revel, Jr. doesn’t shy away from helping in the run game.
“Just doing it you got to be confident,” said Revel, Jr. “You got to do this for the team. It’s not only you. You got other players that’s depending on you. So, just coming downhill and being confident on that hit.”
Revel, Jr. suffered a torn ACL last season but his doctor said he’ll be ready to participate for all strength and conditioning activities following the draft. If it weren’t for the injury, Revel, Jr. probably would have been a first round pick but any concerns with his knee will probably land him in round two.
