BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Kaleb Johnson was nearly unstoppable out of the Iowa backfield last season, racking up over 1,500 yards and 21 touchdowns which led the Big 10 in both categories. His most impressive stat is zero — that is how many times he fumbled during the 2024 season.
Johnson’s ideal size comes with a nice combination of vision, patience and toughness as a ball-carrier. He’s got the ability to run over or past defenders.
“It depends on if I got if I got a lane, a breakaway or not,” Johnson said. “If they’re in my way, I’m running them over, but if I got a chance to break away and I can use my speed, I’m gonna do that.”
The second team All-American is one of the top running backs in this year’s NFL draft class. Johnson credits another sport for some of his success on the football field.
“I did gymnastics for a little bit too,” Johnson said. “So when I was younger that really helped. They played a big part also. Just playing more than one sport also shows that I’m just a very versatile player on the field and in other sports.”
Johnson is projected to be a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick.
