BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Jalen Royals put up some big time numbers at Utah State. The speedy wide receiver set a program record in 2023 hauling in 15 touchdowns.
Royals is one of the best deep threats in this year’s NFL draft. Two seasons ago, he led the country with seven touchdown catches of 50 or more yards.
The Utah State product described his style of play as fierce, physical with a little bit of quickness.
“I feel like a lot of defensive backs tried to press me and I’m very physical off the line,” said Royals. “With my speed I think I could show my elusiveness, if that makes sense.”
A foot injury last season limited Royals to just seven games. Despite that, he still put up good numbers with a team-high 55 receptions, 834 yards and six touchdowns.
“Last year I put up some good numbers,” said Royals. “This year I put up even better numbers. Even though I’ve been out with an injury, it’s just showing that it’s very consistent work.”
Royals played in the Mountain West Conference, so he didn’t go up against elite competition. Will his production translate to the NFL when he’s going up against the best of the best?
That’s what NFL teams will need to figure out. Royals is projected to be a second or third round draft pick.
