The Bills and Ravens are trying to avoid setting a new NFL record on Sunday.
The Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills have been two of the most successful franchises in the NFL since drafting their quarterbacks in 2018. They’ve both won a ton of regular season games, and that’s a good thing.
Unfortunately for both teams, they’ve had some struggles in the playoffs. Here’s a mind-blowing stat from Pro Football Network.
The team that falls short in the Ravens-Bills matchup will hold a dubious distinction: The most wins in a seven-season span without reaching the Super Bowl in the Super Bowl era (since 1966). Currently, the Bills sit atop that list, with the Ravens right behind them.
Buffalo has 83 wins and Baltimore has 81 wins in the past seven seasons. The 1999-2005 Indianapolis Colts put up 80 wins (in 16-game seasons) while the 2004-2020 San Diego Chargers won 79 games.
Of course, the winner of this game is not guaranteed a Super Bowl trip, either. So both could remain on the list.
It’s not all gloom and doom, however. The 2006 Indianapolis Colts didn’t just make the Super Bowl, they won the whole dang thing. Like Buffalo and Baltimore, they only had one losing trip to the AFC Championship Game during their five-year run that preceded the Super Bowl win.
Those Chargers only had one AFC Championship Game trip, too, but never could get over the hump despite switching from Marty Schottenheimer to Norv Turner in 2007. They haven’t made it back to the conference championship since Turner’s first season.
