Cook’s three-touchdown performance in Week 3 caught the NFL’s attention
It’s just two weeks into the 2024 NFL season, yet the Buffalo Bills have already seen a pair of players named an AFC Offensive Player of the Week. The latest accolade goes to running back James Cook, who was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week following his dominant performance on the road against the Miami Dolphins.
Cook’s nomination in Week 2 comes on the heels of Bills defensive end Greg Rousseau being named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Week 1.
Many wondered if quarterback Josh Allen would add another player-of-the-week award to his trophy case — as he’s so often done at Miami’s expense — but James Cook stole the show in South Beach. By halftime, Cook had already claimed three touchdowns. He’d finish the night with 11 carries for 78 yards and two rushing touchdowns, adding one key reception for 17 yards and the hat-trick score.
He stays cookin’!

This past summer, many had predicted big things for James Cook. With the Bills’ offense having a full offseason to acclimate to offensive coordinator Joe Brady’s system, it’s clear that the work put in is paying off.
Through two games this season, Cook appear more decisive but patient, and more explosive through inside lanes being cleared for him by Buffalo’s offensive line. If the team can keep this level of play up, the sky’s the limit for Cook in 2024 thanks to an offensive scheme that emphasizes the run game.
