The Buffalo Bills continued to reconfigure their wide receivers room this offseason.
On Thursday morning, the team released Quintez Cephus. The Bills also signed safety Dee Delaney.
Buffalo signed Cephus at the end of April, shortly after the NFL reinstated him from an indefinite suspension. He missed the entire 2023 season for violating the league’s gambling policy.
Playing 22 games from 2020 to 2022, Cephus caught 37 of 60 targets for 568 yards and four touchdowns with the Detroit Lions. The former fifth-round pick tallied 15 yards in three games before going on the injured reserve with a season-ending foot injury in October 2022.
Cephus seemed to find an ideal landing spot for a comeback. The Bills can use receiving help after trading Stefon Diggs and losing Gabe Davis in free agency.
However, Buffalo released Cephus days after signing Marquez Valdes-Scantling. The former Kansas City Chiefs playmaker registered 62 yards on just two catches in an AFC Divisional Round victory over the Bills.
Buffalo also signed Curtis Samuel to a three-year deal earlier this offseason and drafted Keon Coleman with the No. 33 pick after trading down with Kansas City.
The Bills filled the roster vacancy by signing Delaney, who’s played 49 games over the last three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He recorded 25 tackles, five pass breakups, and two interceptions last season while allowing 6.6 yards per target in coverage, per Pro Football Reference.
Delaney played a career-high 440 snaps on defense last season, but he mostly lined up on special teams during Tampa Bay’s two playoff games.
