The Bills have nowhere to go but up from their first-half performance
The Buffalo Bills trail the New England Patriots 14-7 at halftime. Nearly everything that could go wrong for Buffalo did just that in a first half that saw the Bills fall into a 14-point hole before anyone could blink.
There’s very little to note positive from Buffalo on offense apart from running back James Cook who continues his impressive season — the latest entry a 46-yard jaunt to paydirt for his 14th rushing touchdown of the season.
But that defense. It’s been terrible at best. Worse than I care to type out in this space. Is it possible the Bills overlooked the Patriots? Are they focused on the postseason, or the holidays coming this week? Are they decidedly not a cold-weather team — just one that has fun in it when it’s snowing? Whatever it is, this isn’t playoff football. Thankfully the postseason hasn’t started.
New England is controlling the line of scrimmage on offense, and head coach Sean McDermott called the defensive line out in his quick interview before heading into the locker room to regroup. It’s also evident that safeties Damar Hamlin and Taylor Rapp are key to the defensive backfield. Buffalo misses their play in a big way this afternoon.
On offense, the Bills should lean on their running game, and use it to leverage the pass through Cook, Ty Johnson, and Ray Davis. Perhaps it would be wise to further involve receivers like Keon Coleman and Amari Cooper?
Here’s your second-half thread for the rest of today’s Bills-Patriots game. Let’s hope the second half is more fun. As always, be kind to one another — and in all things… Go Bills!
