The cold weather in Buffalo will be new for Ravens’ Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry

It was September 29th when the Buffalo Bills played the Baltimore Ravens in Week 4. The game was in Maryland and temperature at kickoff was in the mid-60s. Ravens QB Lamar Jackson was in a hood with a winter hat on the sideline.

It was not cold, but Jackson was dressed for the cold.

Then comes this weather-related note from WGR 550’s Sneaky Joe. The Buffalo Bills earning the two seed may actually be pretty impactful beyond just the crowd noise difference.

Some early forecasts show 8-degrees for Bills-Ravens on Sunday night.

Coldest game Lamar Jackson has played was 27-degrees.

Coldest game Derrick Henry has played was 22-degrees.

Lamar Jackson is from Florida, went to school in Kentucky, and has played his pro ball in Baltimore. Sure it gets cold in Kentucky and Baltimore, but not like Western New York.

In college, Jackson only played in two outdoor games in cold-weather cities during the month of November and none in December. In both games, the temperature in Boston and Pittsburgh was over 52 degrees.

Jackson has played two NFL games in sub-freezing temperatures. The Ravens are 1-1, with the win in the Divisional Round against Houston a year ago. He is a combined 29/46 for 299 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions with 25 runs for 167 yards and two touchdowns with one fumble lost.

To counteract the weather, the Buffalo Bills have Josh Allen. Allen went to college in Wyoming, playing a bunch of snow games. Perhaps the best game of his career came in one of the coldest when he went 21/25 for 308 yards and five touchdowns against the New England Patriots in January of 2022. The wind chill made it feel like minus-4 Fahrenheit that night.

The Bills are 14-2 under Sean McDermott when the temperature is under 32 degrees. That’s the best record in the NFL since 1991, per the team.

There is only a 30% chance of snow on Sunday, per Weather.com, but it’s still early. Saturday has a 78% chance while Monday sits at 24% chance.

The weather could impact how willing a player is to get hit, or go to the ground, and could also impact the grip of the football. Stay tuned.
