The Buffalo Bills are moving forward with the idea of trying to compensate for the fact that Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis are no longer part of the receiving corps. With Diggs gone, Buffalo is devoid of any star power in its wide receiver group, making them a team possibly on the lookout for a star wide receiver looking for a new team.
One of the players that fits that description is San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk as he is trying to get his next contract to line up with some of the highest-paid receivers in the NFL. However, with him requesting a trade following stalled contract negotiations with the 49ers, some have theorized the Bills as a possible trade destination, an idea that was shut down by ESPN NFL insider Jeff Darlington.
“No I honestly don’t see a world where San Francisco sends him off, especially at this point when they’re entering into a year when they believe they have a championship caliber roster,” Darlington said during a recent appearance on ESPN’s Get Up. Per various reports, it seems that the 49ers are expected to hold onto Aiyuk for as long as possible with the hope of signing him to an extension, but if negotiations do not recover, Aiyuk could be playing for another team soon.
“It really doesn’t make any sense for the team at this point to ship off Brandon Aiyuk. We’ll see how that unfolds should Aiyuk hold out of training camp for an extended period or at all. But, right now, there is no sense that the Bills could acquire Aiyuk to bolster that room,” Darlington said.
NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday that Aiyuk is reporting to San Francisco’s training camp, but is still looking for a new contract. While Darlington is reporting that Buffalo is not in the running for Aiyuk at this time, this is a story for Bills Mafia to keep tabs on just in case he becomes available for a trade.
