BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A WIVB News 4 photographer was on the scene Saturday in downtown Buffalo as workers started taking down the poster of Josh Allen on the Statler building.
The poster, reading, “Is It In You?,” served as an advertising campaign for Gatorade. The campaign followed its commercial titled, “Hello Coach,” that displayed Allen’s persistency as he reached out to numerous college programs hoping for a chance to join their teams.
After just over one month since the poster’s debut, its time overlooking the Queen City has come to an end.
“Statler Building owner Douglas Development successfully completed and complied with all required sign permits with the city and all approvals were granted, including a zoning variance,” a city spokesperson told News 4. “The contract for the billboard was for a 30-day period between Douglas Development and Gatorade which has recently expired.”
Douglas Development originally lacked the necessary permission to display the banner, but the company worked with the Department of Permits and Inspections to eventually obtain the permit.
Department Commissioner Cathy Amdur said in September that the banner didn’t require the Preservation Board’s approval because it’s temporary and doesn’t affect the outside of the Statler.
News 4 reached out to Douglas Development for more information as to why it’s coming down, but has yet to hear back.
