In 2020, after struggling for his first two seasons, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen got a massive upgrade at wide receiver with Stefon Diggs joining the team and has been one of the league’s most dominant quarterbacks ever since. But with Diggs now gone, fans are wondering what the future has in store.
On Wednesday, the Bills traded Diggs to the Houston Texans in exchange for a second-round pick in 2025. Time will tell if the Bills wind up winning that trade, but in the short term they now find themselves down a wideout who delivered 100-catch, 1,000-yard seasons like clockwork. That kind of talent and production can be hard to replace – especially with the first wave of free agency now over.
As it stands right now though, fans are understandably curious about Allen – specifically, how angry he must be to lose his top receiver and who he’s going to throw to moving forward.
“The Bills clearly think Josh Allen can produce an elite offense with just solid weapons (They will draft a WR + Shakir has been good), and they’re right to, but Diggs had to have been causing some legit internal conflict for them to bite the bullet on all of this dead money,” one user on X wondered.
“Josh Allen throwing deep balls to himself next season,” FanDuel Sportsbook joked.
“A 2nd round pick for one of the best receivers in Bills history and a HUGE part of the success for Josh Allen and the offense. WTF???!!!” wrote a third.
The Bills have enjoyed their best four-year stretches since the 1990s with Diggs as the No. 1 wide receiver. Now that he’s gone, Allen needs to step up even more.
