From Olympic gold medalist to WWE superstar to NFL player. That’s the path that Gable Steveson has officially taken.
According to NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, Steveson has signed a deal with the Buffalo Bills. He joins an extremely exclusive club of NFL players who also won Olympic gold –
“Gable Steveson, an Olympic gold medalist and one of the most dominant college wrestlers in NCAA history, is signing with the Bills, per his agent Carter Chow. Steveson now will try to join Bob Hayes as the only athlete to win a Super Bowl ring and an Olympic gold medal,” Schefter wrote.
Steveson was a dominant wrestler at the amateur level, winning two NCAA titles and shocking the world by winning gold at the Olympics in Tokyo, knocking off numerous world champions in the process.
After his Olympic glory, Steveson mulled offers from both the NFL (despite never having played football at any competitive level) or WWE. He chose WWE but never really found his footing with the company and was released a few weeks ago.
Few teams have been as high on Steveson as the Bills though. Bills head coach Sean McDermott, a former wrestler in his own right, has been eager to bring him on board and see what he can do with pads on.
But Steveson has a long road ahead of him to even get up to speed, let alone getting onto an NFL field.
