In the modern NFL, offense doesn’t just win games; it wins championships. The Chiefs and Buccaneers proved this was the case the last two years.
Therefore, it wasn’t a surprise to see the last two Super Bowl champions atop ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky’s list of the top five offenses in the NFL this season. However, the final team Orlovsky named was a bit of a shock.
Behind Kansas City and Tampa Bay were the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns. These choices make a lot of sense, considering Bills quarterback Josh Allen is a legit MVP candidate and Cleveland has a stout offensive line, powerful running game and emerging quarterback.
But at No. 5, Orlovsky put the New England Patriots. New England ranked near the bottom of the NFL in several major offensive categories in 2020, but Orlovsky expects Bill Belichick’s team will have a major bounce back.
It also looks like Orlovsky has major faith in rookie quarterback Mac Jones, who he previously called the best pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.
In our opinion, this is a little too much hype for the Patriots offense and Jones in particular. We’ll find out soon enough though if it is justified or not.
Week 1 is right around the corner.
