This comes after the Jets dismissed former head coach Robert Saleh midseason following another disappointing campaign that extended their playoff drought to 14 seasons, the longest active drought in the NFL.
Saleh’s firing marks the latest in a long line of coaching changes for the Jets, who have cycled through five head coaches — Rex Ryan, Todd Bowles, Adam Gase, Robert Saleh, and interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich — since their last playoff appearance in 2010. The Jets aren’t wasting any time in finding their new head coach, and seem to be intent on not leaving any stone unturned. Take a look at the current list of interview requests by the Jets:

NFL interview rules for coaches on playoff teams
Despite their interest in Joe Brady, the Jets face restrictions due to new NFL rules governing interviews with coaches from playoff teams, which is good news for Bills fans. The Jets cannot formally interview Brady until three days after the Bills’ Wild Card Round game, which would be Wednesday, January 15. At that point, only virtual interviews are allowed. Top-seeded teams like the Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Lions’ coaches can participate in interviews this week during their bye week.
In-person interviews must wait until after the Divisional Round and can only occur in the coach’s current team’s city or another location approved by that team. The initial interviews are limited to a maximum time length of three hours. Additionally, potential second interviews aren’t allowed until January 27 — which is the bye week before the Super Bowl.
Joe Brady’s impressive first full season with Buffalo
Joe Brady has made a strong case for head-coaching consideration during his first full season as the Bills’ offensive coordinator. After taking over midseason in 2023 following the dismissal of Ken Dorsey, Brady demonstrated his brilliant offensive mind, which has made him a top candidate in the 2025 cycle of head-coaching interviews.
Under Brady’s leadership in 2024, the Bills boasted one of the most dynamic offensives in NFL history:
- Coached quarterback Josh Allen to be the MVP favorite and saw him record the lowest interception total of his career (6) and the highest QB rating of his career (77.2).
- Buffalo became the first NFL team ever to achieve 30 passing touchdowns and 30 rushing touchdowns in the same season.
- The Bills’ offense ranked 10th in total yards per game (359.1) and second in points per game (30.9).
- Buffalo’s offense averaged over three points per possession.
- The offense tied an NFL record by scoring 30-plus points in eight consecutive games.
- The Bills set a franchise record for touchdowns in a season (63) and points scored in a season (509).
Joe Brady was bound to be a top candidate for a head-coaching position this offseason, considering he even got an interview last season. There will be plenty of other teams lining up to talk to Brady, but he has plenty of work left to do for the Buffalo Bills in his current role if they want to win their first Super Bowl in franchise history.
