The Buffalo Bills’ playoff failures are a well-known storyline, one that has been discussed ad nauseum inside and outside of the fanbase over the last three decades.
Still, Bills Mafia loyalists couldn’t have expected their team would be the butt of a joke from Edmonton Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch before his team takes on the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Finals.
“You can ask the Buffalo Bills how important Super Bowl experience is,” Knoblauch said when discussing the fact the Panthers are playing in the Finals for the second year in a row.
Needless to say, many Bills fans didn’t take kindly to Knoblauch’s jab.
“We are just literally over here existing and yet…” said one Bills fan.
“Ok so go Panthers,” added another.
“Damn, Kris Knoblauch from the top rope,” chimed in hockey writer Melissa Burgess.
“I mean I do not care for this quote. I understand it but can we use another team!!! #billsmafia,” said another Bills fan.
“This is the most random stray that the Bills have taken in a long, long time. #BillsMafia,” said 13WHAM’s Mike Catalana.
“Well I guess I’m rooting for the Panthers now. [Bleep] this dude,” another Bills fan said succinctly.
The Panthers lost the Stanley Cup Finals in five games to the Vegas Golden Knights in 2023. The Bills, of course, lost four consecutive Super Bowls from 1990 to 1993 and are still looking for their first trip back to the big game since then.
Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals is set for 8 p.m. ET Saturday night on ABC. We’re going to go out on a limb and say there will be a lot of Bills Mafia members bandwagoning with the Panthers.
