On Tuesday, the Buffalo Bills announced they are helping to start a new LGBTQ flag football league, the latest NFL franchise to make a commitment to do so.
The Bills shared on Instagram that they are sponsoring the National Gay Flag Football League with the intention of launching a league in the Buffalo area.
“We are thrilled to bring inclusive flag football to Buffalo with the support of the Buffalo Bills. This exciting addition joins 27 other cities, and over 4,000 players, including straight allies, in the National Gay Flag Football League,” said NGFFL Commissioner Joel Horton.
According to Outsports, other teams that have supported similar initiatives include the New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams, New York Giants and Seattle Seahawks.
The National Gay Flag Football League began in 2002, and over the years, has expanded into several major cities and metropolitan areas throughout the United States.
“We are excited to join the NFL and other Clubs across the league in their support of the NGFFL,” said Bills Vice President of Community Impact, Michelle Roberts. “Through our sponsorship, we are looking forward to expanding the impact of the NGFFL in our community.”
Kudos to the Bills, and here’s hoping the new endeavor is a success.
