Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has learned that Harvey Dent wasn’t kidding when he said, “You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villain.”
During an appearance on Logan Paul’s “Impaulsive” podcast, Mahomes was asked if NFL fans view him as a villain. That led to him talking about Bills Mafia.
Prior to this year’s playoff game between the Bills and Chiefs, Mahomes received a pretty harsh welcome from Buffalo’s fan base.
“This year, definitely, was a more villain-type role for the whole team,” Mahomes said. “I don’t think I really realized it—I heard people talking and obviously social media, there’s people always talking—so I didn’t know how real it was until I got to Buffalo this year. I think I saw 40,000 middle fingers on the way to the stadium. They were ready to go.
“We go out there and win, I’m trying to hand my headband and sleeve off to a kid, and snowballs are just flying at me. I’m just like, ‘These people really don’t like me.’ It’s not fake at all. I think they have a great fan base.”
At the end of the day, Mahomes got the last laugh by defeating the Bills in the playoffs yet again.
Mahomes eventually went on to capture his third Super Bowl at the age of 28.
The Bills and Chiefs will meet again this fall. Mahomes might want to prepare himself to see a few more middle fingers.
