The Los Angeles Rams informed Kupp they’re looking to trade him this offseason
Wide receiver Cooper Kupp announced this week that the Los Angeles Rams will look to trade him this offseason. Kupp will enter his ninth season in the NFL, having spent the previous eight seasons in Los Angeles.
Despite Kupp turning 32 in June, he’s shown little to no sign of slowing down, while also acting as an enforcer blocking downfield within the Rams’ offensive scheme. This past season, Kupp started 11 of 12 games played after being sidelined with an injury to begin the year — and he saw the fourth-most targets of his career (100), making 67 catches for 710 yards with six touchdowns.
For his career, Kupp has started 89 of 104 games played, making 634 receptions (891 targets) for 7,776 yards and 57 touchdowns (per Pro Football Reference). Kupp represents the sort of X-factor teams covet, in that while being a key boundary receiver, there’s nowhere he’s incapable of lining up, able to make defenses pay from any position.
Though it’s the end of the road for Kupp in LA, his journey is far from over, sharing the following on social media:
2024 began with one of the best training camps of my career. Preparations start now for 2025. Highly motivated, as healthy as ever, and looking forward to playing elite football for years to come. Love you guys.. But coming for it all.
Would Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane have interest in signing Kupp to a contract? He’d be the first to say they always look into players, especially ones as talented as Kupp has proven to be. It’s undeniable that Kupp would help quarterback Josh Allen and Buffalo’s offense in general — even if his game is somewhat reminiscent of wide receiver Khalil Shakir’s strengths.
The biggest questions here center around what the Rams expect to receive in trade for Kupp, and if the Bills would be eager to make it happen — including the financial aspect of the situation. Would Kupp then be willing to rework his current contract, and is LA’s front office willing to eat some of his salary in the process?
Per Spotrac, Kupp has two years renaming on his current contract, and is reportedly due a $7.5 million roster bonus ($5 million guaranteed) and he has a $12.5 million base salary for the 2025 NFL season ($29.8 million cap hit / $22.3 million dead-cap hit). His base salary in 2026 is slightly more than $19 million ($27.3 million cap hit / $7.5 million dead-cap hit).
It’s clear that Kupp is still highly motivated and looking to catch on with a team with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations. Is this a trade the Bills should fully explore, or do you see it as prohibitive to building the team elsewhere around Allen?
