A fumble by Chiefs wideout Mecole Hardman in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game against the Bills that resulted in a touchback could have cost the Chiefs the game. But Travis Kelce is taking responsibility.
On this week’s edition of the New Heights Podcast, Kelce explained that it’s his fault because he was supposed to have the block on the Bills defender that knocked the ball out of Hardman’s hands. He said he feels sick about it and needs to make it up to Hardman.
“Dude, I’m not going to lie, man, I owe Mecole a (expletive) new car or something — I owe so much to him. My block was the one that knocked the ball out,” Kelce said. “I’ve been (expletive) sick. I’ve apologized to him every single time I (expletive) saw him today and I’ll apologize again, my bad Mecole, man.”
“(Bills safety Jordan Poyer) finished the play better than I did, got a hand on the ball, and man, I owe my guy big time. I feel bad for him, man. There’s nothing worse than giving up the ball, especially in [that] situation.
“That (expletive) sucks, man. And Mecole, he’s fired up to get after it again, though. I know my guy, he wants another opportunity to get the ball and show what he can do with it. And sure enough, you’ll see him next Sunday come up right on time, baby.”
Though if Travis Kelce owes Mecole Hardman a car, Hardman probably owes Buffalo Bills kicker Tyler Bass his whole salary. Were it not for Bass missing a game-tying field goal, Hardman likely would have been the goat of a loss – and not in a good way.
