What are Buffalo Bills fans looking forward to?
Welcome back to our weekend chat, Buffalo Bills fans.
The Buffalo Bills are in a commanding position in the AFC East and the playoffs are a near certainty barring an epic collapse. So as we progress into the second half of the season, what are you most looking forward to as a Bills fan?
Josh Allen’s MVP race
Josh Allen is the new betting favorite to win the league’s MVP award, even though several news outlets are handing the midseason award to Lamar Jackson. If Jackson wants to win, the Baltimore Ravens need to be leading their division, something Allen likely won’t have to worry about. If Allen can put together some highlight performances in the upcoming national TV games, he could very easily solidify his first MVP award.
Buffalo Bills have three nationally televised games to prove their mettle
Allen and the Bills can make a big impression to a lot of people with at least three nationally televised games down the stretch. Games against the Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers, and Detroit Lions will show where Buffalo is in the NFL’s pecking order. (Buffalo has lost to both teams with a winning record on their schedule.) We could even see the Bills/Rams game sneak into a national window in December depending on what happens with the Chicago bears and 49ers down the stretch.
The playoffs are the only thing that matter
I talked about this on Pat Moran’s “Talking Buffalo” podcast this week. There is a portion of the fan base that has turned the page on caring about week-to-week results against teams like the Tennessee Titans and Seattle Seahawks and they only care about the playoffs. That’s cool, too. Obviously when I’m critical of the team during a big win, it’s because I don’t want that same mistake to happen on the biggest stage.
Matt Milano’s return from injury
Head coach Sean McDermott was asked specifically about Milano’s return this week and he says they had a road map to get him back on the field, a sure sign that he will indeed be back in the lineup sooner rather than later. The Bills defense has played admirably, but getting an All-pro back would obviously be a big boost.
Micah Hyde’s return from ‘retirement’
Bills safety Micah Hyde has not filed retirement papers with the NFL. Could he be waiting for a Buffalo Bills playoff run? Subbing him into the Damar Hamlin spot would be an upgrade even at this late stage of his career. Like Jordan Poyer, he’s not the All-Pro player he used to be. Unlike Poyer, though, Hyde was still playing at a pretty good level last year.
Amari Cooper ramping up to a bigger role in the Bills’ offense
Amari Cooper hasn’t made a huge impact yet for the Buffalo Bills, at least not on the stat sheet. General manager Brandon Beane has said receiver is the most difficult position to adjust to midseason, so in another month, Cooper is going to look much different in the offense.
So tell me Bills fans, what are you most looking forward to in the second half of the season?
