As Syracuse football’s head coaching search continues, the school can cross another name off its list of potential candidates.
After fans hopped on social media wondering if Dan Mullen would be interested in coaching the Orange, the former Florida-Mississippi State HC politely declined on Twitter.
“Love the cuse. But will not be the next head coach,” Mullen said flatly.
Syracuse decided to let go of coach Dino Babers after a loss to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets dropped them to 5-6 on the year.

Since taking over in Upstate New York back in 2016, Babers led the school to a 41-55 record with two bowl appearances and a 10-3 finish in his third season. However, he was never quite able to capture that magic again in subsequent years.
Back in October, Babers was vocal about how NIL and the transfer portal has affected his program. Saying, “It’s the same old thing: Depth is gone. Our depth is in the transfer portal. You know how many guys we lost. You know what schools they play at. Schools like us, we’re not going to have a lot of depth because it gets bought away.”
The Orange have reportedly vetted several coaching targets, including: Holy Cross’ Bob Chesney, Toledo’s Jason Candle, Marshall’s Charles Huff and Notre Dame DC Al Golden.
