After 47 years, Jim Boeheim has finally called it a wrap on his career as head coach at Syracuse. As you might expect, his son-turned-NBA player Buddy had some thoughts on it.
Taking to Twitter this afternoon, Buddy Boeheim praised his father for being such a great coach and mentor, and for all he’s given to Syracuse University. He said he’s looking forward to playing golf with his father in the near future and that he loves him.
“There will never be another Jim Boeheim. The greatest coach, father, and mentor I could ever ask for. A man that gave a city, program, and university everything he had his whole life with countless accomplishments. Excited for a lot of golf in our future, love you pops,” Boeheim wrote.
Buddy Boeheim played four years at Syracuse from 2018 to 2022, averaging over 17 points per game in his final three years and helping the Orange reach the Sweet 16 in 2021. He is now with the Detroit Pistons and their G-League Motor City Cruise team.

Jim Boeheim coached Syracuse for 47 years, leading them to a national title in 2003. He’s already in both basketball Hall of Fames and has won just about everything there is.
While it’s a shame that Boeheim couldn’t go out in the NCAA Tournament like his contemporaries Coach K and Roy Williams did, he still leaves behind a legacy that the current crop of coaches will be hard-pressed to match.
