The Orange field general made his announcement on local TV
A few days ago, in response to a question about players’ availability in the upcoming Holiday Bowl, Syracuse Orange head coach Fran Brown told reporters “We don’t opt out around here. We play football.”
His star quarterback just echoed that sentiment.
Kyle McCord, who has already racked up one of the best statistical years in program history, will suit up in San Diego and play a 13th game this season. CNY Central’s Megan Coleman had the scoop – she interviewed McCord and other Orange players today as they were volunteering with the Salvation Army.

McCord was 367/558 (65.8%) passing for 4,326 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions during the regular season and also added three rushing TDs. Kyle secured several program records including most passing yards, most completions, and most 300-passing-yard games in a single season.
He also currently stands as the nation’s leading passer, leading Miami’s Cam Ward (4,123) and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders (3,926).
We’ll keep an eye out for other players’ decisions, but based on this first impression, we should see many of the regulars take on Washington State in the Holiday Bowl. One who won’t is TE Dan Villari, who had his left arm in a sling while at the event tonight.
The bowl game kicks off Friday, December 27th at 8pm on FOX.
