Let’s see how the Orange are doing in Paris
Several former Syracuse Orange athletes are in Paris for the Summer Olympics so here’s an update on their progress.
In rowing, Harriet Taylor earned bronze as part of Great Britain’s Women’s Eight boat. The team finished third behind Romania and Canada (former Orange ice hockey player Kristen Siermachesky was an alternate for Canada). Taylor becomes the first Syracuse rower to medal since Natalie Mastracci in 2012.
Recent graduate Kamile Kralikaite was fifth in the women’s pairs for Lithuania. It’s the highest Olympic finish for a Lithuanian duo in the Olympics and we will probably see Kralikaite in Los Angeles in four years.
In the men’s rowing fours, Nicholas Kohl and Italian boat took 4th place in the event. It was Kohl’s first Olympic competition and the former Orange star just missed bringing home a medal.
On the track, hurdler Freddie Crittenden suffered an injury before the opening round of the 110m hurdles. Crittenden made the decision to complete the race at a leisurely pace and try to recover for tomorrow’s Repecharge round. Crittenden will need to finish in the top two in his heat to advance to the semi-final.

On the hardwood, Alexis Peterson and Germany lost 87-68 to the United States but they still advanced to the quarterfinal where they will face France. Peterson had 14 points (6/9 shooting) and 4 assists against the US.
Kayla Alexander and the Canadian women’s team went 0-3 in group play. Alexander closed out her Olympics with 12 points and 7 rebounds in the final game against Nigeria.
Both Miles Robinson’s US Men’s squad and Lysianne Proulx’s Canadian Women’s squad were eliminated in the Quarterfinal round.
