For over 45 years Jim Boeheim has been the constant in Syracuse basketball. But after today’s gut-wrenching loss in the opening round of the ACC Tournament, there are more questions than ever about his future with the Orange.
Syracuse just lost to Wake Forest 77-74, effectively ending their NCAA Tournament hopes in the process. They had lost four of their final five regular season games and finish the year at 17-15 overall.
Many fans have simply had enough of Boeheim at this point. With the team’s struggles over the past few years, a lot are saying that it’s time for the 78-year-old coach to finally retire:
Williamson for 3 with 0.5 seconds remaining. Wake Forest wins 77-74. Syracuse’s season will end in Greensboro at 17-15. Did the Jim Boeheim era end today as well?

Jim Boeheim is 77. He was the head coach at Syracuse when Franco Harris was starting at fullback for the Steelers. It’s time. It’s over. It’s done with.

Jim Boeheim going out like Jim Boeheim: giving up a 3 because you exclusively play a middle school defense that is designed to give up 3s https://t.co/Rr4NARy6Tn

Jim Boeheim has been the head coach of Syracuse since 1976 and has been a part of the school for all but three years since 1963.
During his run with the Orange, Boeheim has led Syracuse to the NCAA Tournament 35 times with five trips to the Final Four and a national championship win in 2003. He has six conference tournament titles and 10 regular season titles as a head coach.
But after back-to-back seasons missing the NCAA Tournament, it may be time for some fresh blood in New York.
Will Jim Boeheim coach for the Orange again, or has he coached his final game at Syracuse?
