Syracuse earned a fourth straight bid to the NCAA Tournament after the 18-team field was announced Sunday. The unseeded Orange were one of five Atlantic Coast Conference teams selected. SU is set to face Harvard in the first round Friday at George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs, CT.
SU finished the regular season 12-5 and entered the ACC Tournament as the No. 5 seed. The Orange faced No. 4 seed Virginia, which boasted a 13-3 regular-season record. Syracuse entered the contest 4-4 in the ACC during its 2024 campaign, but it upset the Cavaliers 1-0. The Orange lost to top-seeded North Carolina 3-1 in the semifinals, but the win over the Cavaliers all but sealed their spot in the tournament.
In Syracuse’s last three NCAA tournament appearances, it was eliminated in the quarterfinal round, once by Duke and twice by Maryland. The Orange’s loss last season was notably deflating, as they fell 2-1 to the Blue Devils despite taking an early lead.
Syracuse and Harvard last met on Oct. 1, 2023, where the Crimson won 6-5 in a high-scoring affair. This time around, Harvard finished the regular season with an impressive 13-3 record before defeating Brown in overtime in the Ivy League first round and Princeton, also in OT, in the Ivy League Championship. The winner of SU and Harvard’s matchup will take on the winner of No. 3 UConn and Massachusetts in the NCAA quarterfinals.
