There’s no longer a scheduling conflict standing in the way
Syracuse Orange football was set to try something different for the annual Spring Game this year. Instead of playing inside the JMA Wireless Dome like usual, the team was scheduled to scrimmage outdoors at the SU Soccer Stadium – potentially a more intimate experience that would take advantage of early spring weather.
That was before Billy Joel postponed the concert he was supposed to be performing the night before.
With their normal digs suddenly available, SU and Head Coach Fran Brown seemingly took the Piano Man’s advice to “do what’s good for you” and moved the Spring Game back inside the Dome.

The 3pm kickoff time on April 12 is unchanged, and the pregame festivities that were originally scheduled to be held in the Colvin Lot have been moved to the Quad.

The game is not expected to be televised. An SU spokesperson previously said that the Orange would not broadcast the spring game – a decision not caused by the venue it was to be played at – and instead air a one hour All-Access show on the ACC Network. That decision seems to serve as a happy middle ground for fans who still want to see the Orange practice, while addressing the concerns expressed by many coaches that spring film is used by rival coaches to entice players into the transfer portal.
Fran has repeatedly stated that he trusts his players and doesn’t expect the spring game to have an effect on who, if any, will enter the summer portal. Several others, including Nebraska’s Matt Rhule and NC State’s Dave Doeren, have the complete opposite opinion and have canceled their spring games as a result.
We’ll have coverage of the Orange throughout spring camp, including of the three-way QB battle, the incoming recruiting class, new and returning assistant coaches, and more.
