Heading from Duval to the Meadowlands
Day One of NFL free agency saw a ton of movement throughout the league – including one former Syracuse Orange defensive back finding a new home.
Andre Cisco, who spent the first four years of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, has signed a one-year contract with the New York Jets. The deal is worth up to $10 million. ESPN’s Adam Schefter had the news first.
Cisco, a 24 year-old native of Queens, is coming off a down year for the Jags – though most of their defense could say the same. He recorded 68 tackles (44 solo), seven pass breakups, and an interception over 16 games, and had a PFF coverage grade of 56.7 – a career low by far.
Cisco had a combined seven takeaways the previous two seasons. He’ll look to return to that form in this Homecoming of sorts.
The Jets’ newest safety has some local ties. Born in NYC, grew up in Valley Stream and attended St. Anthony’s HS before transferring to IMG in Florida. Returned to NY to attend Syracuse. https://t.co/YMaOlGN38u

Cisco played parts of three seasons for Syracuse, accumulating 136 tackles, 14 pass breakups, and 15 turnovers. In his true freshman campaign, Cisco earned both ACC Rookie of the Year and All-American honors as SU finished 10-3 and No. 15 in the AP Poll. His junior year ended after just two games due to a torn ACL, after which he declared for the NFL Draft. He was selected in the 3rd Round (65th Overall) by the Jaguars – one of two Orange alums to be taken in that class, along with Ifeatu Melifonwu by the Detriot Lions.
Cisco is the second SU grad to sign a new contract this offseason – former QB Tommy DeVito will be partially sharing a stadium with him as a member of the Giants.
