Get a piece of Orange history
Fran Brown’s goal as Head Coach of the Syracuse Orange football team is to bring the program to their 2nd National Championship. This week one Orange fan can get a piece of memorabilia from that 1st Championship squad.
Lelands Auctions is currently offering an autographed football from the 1959 Orange team, which commemorates their Cotton Bowl win over Texas. Here’s the description from the Lelands’ website
Presented is a hand-painted Rawlings football which has been signed by 51 members of the 1959 Syracuse Orangemen National Champion football team. “1959 Syracuse National Champions” is painted on the white panel of the ball in orange, and the text is outlined in blue. “Syracuse 23” and “Texas 14” is painted on the white panel as well, on opposite ends of the football. The opposite panel of the ball is painted blue, and “1959 SYRACUSE” is painted in orange text, over the blue. The other two panels are light brown. One is blank, and the one has 51 signatures of the ‘59 championship team. Notable signatures include Ernie Davis, Bob Yates, Gerhard Schwedes, and Roger Davis. The signatures have been authenticated by Beckett, and a full LOA is included. The football is partially deflated, and in very good condition overall.
The ball is also signed by the Head Coach of the 1959 team, Ben Schwartzwalder, so any Syracuse fan would be adding a pretty unique item to their collection, or this might look pretty good in a display case in the new football wing at the Lally Complex…..just saying.
