We may need to mint an OrangeHuskie trophy at this rate
Syracuse Orange football fans should get very used to seeing another northeast team on their calendar. And unlike with ACC foes BC and Pitt, this is entirely SU’s own doing.
‘Cuse was already scheduled to play UConn four years in a row beginning this season, and they’ve decided to make it five with another home game on November 11, 2028. Additionally, the previously scheduled road game on November 6, 2027, will officially be played at the Huskies’ normal home in East Hartford, and not at any neutral site.
At latest count, this is now a three-for-three agreement between the two schools, with Syracuse hosting in 2024, 2025 and 2028, and UConn hosting in 2022, 2026, and 2027.
The all-time series is tied 6-6, with both outfits sporting a 4-2 record at home. The Orange have won the last four meetings and will try for a fifth straight win when they meet next weekend.
Additionally, the remaining series with Army has been canceled, according to the SU Athletics website. SU welcomed the West Point cadets to the Dome last September in what was supposed to be the first of four meetings. Instead, the Black Knights joined the American Athletic Conference and scrapped most of their future schedules.
Speaking of which… here’s how the next few years of Orange football are shaping up:
2025
- Home: UConn, Colgate, Boston College, Duke, North Carolina, Pitt
- Away: Notre Dame, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Miami, SMU
- Neutral: Tennessee (Atlanta)
2026
- Home: New Hampshire, Cal, Clemson, Louisville, SMU
- Away: Notre Dame, UConn, Boston College, North Carolina, Pitt, Virginia
2027
- Home: Boston College, Florida State, NC State, Pitt
- Away: Penn State, UConn, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Stanford, Virginia Tech
2028
- Home: Penn State, UConn, Louisville, Miami, Virginia, Wake Forest
- Away: Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Pitt
It’s fine that SU got this done but like I’ve said before, they’re still way behind most Power programs on scheduling and there’s a very real possibility they won’t have seven home games again until 2028. Moving forward they need to be more proactive with finding non-conference opponents from potential recruiting areas.
