Some new players to keep an eye on
With the Syracuse Orange spring football game this Saturday, we have heard a lot about defensive back/wide receiver Demetres Samuel, but what about some other freshmen already on campus?
Reports out of Syracuse camp indicate that another Florida defensive back has emerged to challenge for playing time. Kaylib Singleton was Syracuse’s 2nd highest-rated recruit in the class and the 6’1” corner is pushing to make the two-deep right away.
Linebacker Antoine Deslauriers passes the look test and with the Orange having to fill spots at that position, we’ll see if the Quebec native can be an option at least in short-yardage situations.
Another freshmen we’ve heard about in camp is wide receiver Darius Johnson, out of Miami. The 5’10” Johnson is getting reps at punt returner this Spring. With Trebor Pena the likely #1 wide receiver, getting another player to share returning responsibilities can help keep Pena fresher for offense. We don’t usually see kicks returned in the spring game, but file Johnson’s name away for August. Johnson might find an immediate role thanks to his elusiveness in the open field.
What other newcomers are you looking forward to seeing next Saturday in the Dome?
