Will the Orange get to 8 wins?
The Syracuse Orange (7-3, 4-3) are back at home to welcome the Connecticut Huskies (7-3) to the JMA Dome. After a big road win, can the Orange avoid looking ahead to next week’s game with Miami.
Kickoff is at Noon on the ACC Network and here’s what we’re predicting for Senior Day:
Mike (5-5): Syracuse 41, UConn 24
UConn is having a great season all things considered, but they haven’t played many ‘good’ teams – and none that have the offensive firepower of the Orange. I don’t expect this to be a total blowout like their opener at Maryland, because the Huskies have grown a lot as a unit since then, but even with a strong three-headed running attack, they won’t keep pace with Kyle McCord and his receiving corps. The Syracuse Seniors have an enjoyable afternoon all around and secure their 8th win.
Dom (7-3): Syracuse 38, UConn 27
So long as Syracuse avoids any turnovers that gives UConn good field position it can take advantage of, the Orange have too much firepower offensively on paper for the Huskies to stay in this one. UConn can absolutely move the ball on the ground but I think there chances in the air are 50-50; Syracuse’s passing coverage just needs to be solid and that should do the trick. The Huskies will keep it close but another fast start gives enough cushion for Syracuse to stay out in front.
Kevin (7-3): Syracuse 34, UConn 20
The Orange need to get another quick start and not let UConn stay committed to their rushing attack. I’m expecting we see a lot of targets for Oronde Gadsden and Trebor Pena in this one, which opens up Jackson Meeks in single coverage in the red zone. The Orange have to avoid turnovers and unnecessary penalties if they want to keep hopes of a 10-win season alive.
Max (5-5): Syracuse 38, UConn 20
My hometown Huskies have looked great this season, but as Mike said, their strength of schedule is a big concern. UConn’s usual game plan is to try and run the ball into the ground, and I think Syracuse’s offense will speed up the visitors to an unfamiliar tempo. Three touchdown passes from Kyle McCord will get the Orange out to an early lead, and the Huskies’ run-heavy offense won’t have enough time to mount a comeback.
