Seven Orange lacrosse players were named among the best in the country for the upcoming season. Can you guess who they are?
As we start to wind down the 2024 calendar, anticipation is building for the new year.
Lacrosse took another step in that direction last week when Inside Lacrosse revealed their Top 50 players for 2025 with both a men’s list and a women’s list.
There was plenty of Syracuse Orange to go around as seven ‘Cuse players made the cut, five for the men and two for the women.
For the men, attacker Joey Spallina (No. 6) led the way coming in just outside the Top 5, and he was joined by defender Billy Dwan (No. 23), midfielder Sammy English (No. 33), midfielder Michael Leo (No. 38) and attacker Owen Hiltz (No. 42).
For the women, attacker Olivia Adamson (No. 10) grabbed the final spot in the Top 10 while attacker Emma Ward (No. 24) was slotted just inside the top half.
Both lists reflect the current state of SU lacrosse heading into the new year. For the men, five selections is a terrific showing for a team most expect to be one of the best in the country in 2025. And for the women, the selections of by far their two most experienced players represents a team that has lots of potential but also lots of questions with such a relatively young and new roster.
The men, who return more talent from last year than basically anybody in the country, came in with the second-most selections of any school behind only two-time defending national champion Notre Dame and their ridiculously high eight.
As for the women, their two comes in behind defending champs Boston College with six (including four in the top 11), Northwestern and Michigan with five, and North Carolina and Stanford with three.
Stay tuned for more lacrosse coverage as the schedules get released and the preseason kicks into gear once the calendar flips.
