The PG market is going to fluctuate this spring
Now that the Syracuse Orange have added their second transfer edition, fans are wondering why Adrian Autry hasn’t signed a point guard yet.
While the transfer portal is in the second week, remember that the final day for players to enter the portal (barring a coaching change) is April 22nd. That’s just for entering the portal, and if you’ve been paying attention, there is a ripple effect already occurring at the point guard position.
Last week commenters debated the merits of Elliot Cadeau of UNC, but with Cadeau off to Michigan, that sent their starter Tre Donaldson into the portal on Tuesday (he committed to Miami). He was joined by Pitt’s Jaland Lowe and Michigan State’s Tre Holloman and while we don’t know if Syracuse is in the mix for any of them at the time of writing this, as they move around it can create a domino effect.
This doesn’t mean Syracuse can just sit back and wait it out, but there is value in being smart with an approach here. You hope that the Syracuse staff has a sense of who could still enter the portal, and a proper evaluation of landing a starting point guard at a value that makes sense for improving the team and leaving enough money to fill out the remaining roster needs.
We know that the Orange have been in touch with Malachi Smith and others already. Now we can add Georgia Tech’s Naithan George, who led the ACC in assists and is from Toronto, to the possibilities.
Georgia Tech transfer Naithan George has been contacted by Arizona State, Georgia, Gonzaga, Louisville, UNC, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Stanford, Syracuse, Texas, and other programs since entering the portal, a source tells @247Sports.

All this is to say that there are options out there (and options that we don’t know are out there), and while we don’t want to see Syracuse settle for an unproven option, it means that the staff doesn’t necessarily have to have the position filled tomorrow.
The 2025-26 Syracuse team is going to need to have the right pieces to be successful so the staff needs to make sure they don’t blow the budget chasing one spot and fans need to understand it’s not when the Orange land a point guard, but who they land and what they can put around them.
