Welcome back to the land of tacos
While the results on the court from the Syracuse Orange basketball team might not be ideal, there’s still one thing ‘Cuse fans can rely on: a free taco.
Despite the loss to Pitt last Saturday, SU didn’t leave its 20,000 fans with nothing. Chris Bell drilled a three-pointer to cut the Panthers’ lead to two with 24 seconds left. But more importantly, the bucket put the Orange over the 70-point threshold required for Taco Time.
Since our last update, Adrian Autry’s crew has gone 4-2 ATTS (Against the Taco Spread). Now 10-2 on the season, the Orange have clinched a winning record with just five home games remaining.
Speaking of Bell “ringing the bell,” that’s the first Bellringer of the season for the junior from California. Here’s the full chart of Bell-ringers as we head into February:
With a made free-throw against Notre Dame, J.J. Starling exacted revenge on his former school and sent Orange fans home with a win AND a free taco. He also reclaimed the Bell-ringer title. It doesn’t get much better than that.
Elsewhere, Eddie Lampkin’s made jumper against Bucknell got the “Big Fella” on the board, while JaQuan Carlos added a layup with under a minute remaining versus Wake Forest for his second Bell-ringing of the year.
The only letdowns came against Georgia Tech and Louisville, where SU scored 62 and 61 points, respectively (again, we’re thinking in taco terms here).
As it stands right now, this season’s Bell-ringer title will come down to the wire. Home games with Duke, Boston College, North Carolina, NC State and Virginia remain on Syracuse’s schedule, with the Blue Devils coming to town on Feb. 5.
