The Syracuse Orange women’s basketball season is fast approaching, and we’re continuing our player profiles for each scholarship player. Up next for the Orange is superstar guard Dyaisha Fair, who is looking to build off her superb first year with the program:
Position: Point Guard
Class: Graduate Student
Vitals: 5’5”
Stats (2022-23): Fair averaged 19.9 points (2nd in ACC), 3.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists (5th in ACC) and 2.4 steals per game (2nd in ACC) on 40% shooting from the field, 36% from three and 82% from the foul line in 35.8 minutes per game. She earned All-ACC first team honors last year and begins this season on the preseason award watch list for best women’s basketball point guard.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Fair’s reliability as a scorer and playmaker can’t be undervalued, especially coming into her fifth college basketball season and second with the Orange. Her transitioning from the MAC to the ACC proved to be more seamless then I even thought, and getting the conference’s second-best scorer and one of the peskiest perimeter defenders in the nation is an added bonus. Her height will always give her a vulnerability to bigger guards on both ends of the court, but the offensive value outweighs her defensive vulnerability.
Ceiling: Fair’s ceiling this year is another All-ACC first team campaign which includes finishing first or second in the league in scoring with some improved efficiency. Since the offense will run through her, the assist totals could also rise with better shooters surrounding her.
Floor: If Fair goes on a cold streak, especially with the outside shot, it does put a cap on how well the Orange can perform this season. At a bare minimum, she’s going to be a top-10 or so scorer, but that won’t cut it if Syracuse wants to return to the NCAA Tournament.
