Amanda Vestri is on a roll
The Syracuse Orange track and field programs were back in action over the weekend. A large group of sprinters/hurdlers were at Penn State for the Nittany Lion Challenge and several Syracuse athletes excelled.
For the Orange women, Kahniya James won the women’s 60m dash in a time of 7.54. Taleea Buxton (8.43) and Shaleah Colaire (8.54) took the top two spots in the 60m hurdles.
Trei Thorogood won the men’s 60m dash in 6.67 while alum Jaheem Hayles led a group of five current Orange hurdlers with his winning time of 7.93. The Orange took the next five spots with Anthony Vasquez (7.96), David Peters (8.00), Emmanuel Joseph (8.01), Naseem Smith (8.04) and Isaiah Lewis (8.14) following Hayles.
Elijah Mallard was 4th in the 400m dash in a time of 48.26 and James Nmah took 7th in the 200m dash in 22.11. Next up for the Orange is the Dr. Sander Scorcher in New York City.
On Sunday, former Orange distance stars took to the roads for the Houston Half Marathon. Amanda Vestri took 4th in a time of 1:07:35 while Paige Wood was 14th in 1:09:20. Vestri’s time is 8th all-time on the US list and as she begins her move up to the marathon, she’s emerging as runner to watch.
