Season ends in Greensboro
Syracuse Orange basketball teams and second-half leads are not a good combination in 2025. The Orange women let a 45-28 halftime lead slip away in a 76-73 loss to the Boston College Eagles in the opening round of the ACC Tournament.
Syracuse jumped out to a 27-14 lead after the first quarter as Kyra Wood scored 11 points and it looked like the Orange had carried over the momentum from Sunday’s win. At halftime, Syracuse led 45-28 behind a 15-0 advantage on second chance points.
The Eagles soared out of halftime with a 14-1 run to cut Syracuse’s lead to 3. Sophie Burrows scored 10 of the Orange’s 15 points in the quarter, but BC forced Syracuse into seven turnovers and grabbed six offensive rebounds as they turned up the intensity.
Still it was a Syracuse lead into the fourth and it looked like the Orange were going to hold on until this sequence with five minutes to play.

Dontavia Waggoner’s chase-down block was part of a final five minutes where Waggoner scored 8 of her game-high 32 points. Waggoner and Teya Sidberry combined for 15 offensive rebounds as BC used those second-chance points to take the lead late. The Orange had a couple of chances to regain the lead but first a Georgia Woolley drive was ruled a charge. It seemed like Woolley was going to give Syracuse the lead and the call wiped out the go-ahead basket.
After the teams exchanged turnovers, Kyra Wood missed a tough jumper in the lane and Sidberry hit two free throws to give BC a 76-73 lead. Woolley’s attempt to tie fell short and the Syracuse season came to an end.
Burrows led the Orange with 23 points, Woolley added 16 and Wood ended the game with 15. We’ll have more on the season and a look ahead to next year in the coming days.
