In less than a month, the brand new WLL will begin competition alongside the PLL as part of their annual February Championship Series.
The 2025 Syracuse Orange aren’t the only ‘Cuse women playing lacrosse this February.
Late last week, the brand new Women’s Lacrosse League announced the rosters for their inaugural event, the 2025 Championship Series.
The league will be debuting with a Sixes-style event that will be comprised of four teams with 12 players each. Four of those players are Syracuse alums: Meg Carney, Emily Hawryschuk, Emma Tyrrell and Meaghan Tyrrell.
The inaugural four teams are the Boston Guard, the New York Charging, the Maryland Charm and the California Palms. All four ‘Cuse players will be on the New York team.

The teams appear to have an alumni-based theme to them. Boston is made up primarily of Boston College and Notre Dame players. New York is mostly made up of Syracuse and Northwestern alums. Maryland consists of, yes, Maryland players, and California is mostly North Carolina graduates. There are a bunch of players from other schools, as well.
The WLL’s first competition will be taking place from February 11-17 at the St. James facility in Springfield, VA, just outside of Washington DC. The four teams will compete in three round-robin games before the semifinals on February 16 and the title game on February 17.
The WLL was launched in November 2024 by the Premier Lacrosse League.
Congratulations to Meg, Emily, Emma and Meaghan on being a part of the dawn of a new era for women’s professional lacrosse!
