The RedHawks are wearing blue jerseys to recognize the 50th anniversary of Western College’s final graduating class.
The Miami (OH) RedHawks are going blue for their final 2024 non-conference matchup.
Miami unveiled a new blue alternate jersey in recognition of its Week 5 homecoming game vs. UMass. The blue pays homage to Western College for Women, which closed in 1974 and became integrated as part of Miami’s campus.
“We are excited to honor the legacy and tradition of Western College,” Miami athletic director David Sayler said in a statement. “As our football team takes the field for Homecoming, these unique jerseys will add to a special atmosphere at Yager Stadium and help celebrate the enduring relationship between Miami and Western.”
The uniform worn Saturday will be a blend of Miami’s traditional look and a tribute to Western College. Western College’s logo was a blue flag, serving as the inspiration for the color of the jerseys. The blue uniforms feature a white-red-white shoulder tri-stripe and the red “M” logo on the right collarbone. The words “Western College” are etched on the front of the jersey, and below them are white numbers outlined in red.
To complement the blue jerseys, Miami is wearing its usual white pants with a red stripe and its typical helmet featuring the red “M.”
The spirit of Western College will run through Yager Stadium this Saturday, September 28.
