The Rockets will travel to the JMA Wireless Dome in 2026 and host the Orange in 2029.
The Toledo Rockets announced a future home-and-home non-conference series with the Syracuse Orange on Tuesday morning.
Toledo will travel to the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse on Sept. 19, 2026. The Orange will return to the Glass Bowl in Toledo on Sept. 22, 2029.
Toledo now has three of its four non-conference games slated for the 2026 season. That year, the Rockets will battle Michigan State and Syracuse on the road and host San Diego State in the Glass Bowl. With this schedule update, the Rockets have now satisfied all four non-conference games for 2029. Four years from now, they’ll travel to Maryland and Tulsa while Rice and Syracuse pay a visit to Toledo.
The 2026 meeting will be the first meeting between Toledo and Syracuse since 2011, when the Orange narrowly edged the Rockets, 33-30, on a game-winning field goal in overtime. Syracuse is 3-0 in the all-time series, also handily winning the matchups in 1999 and 2003.
Syracuse is no stranger to scheduling MAC opponents, squaring off against MAC competition 23 times in the 26 seasons spanning 1999-2024. The Orange currently ride a 11-game win streak against the MAC dating back to 2009, and the 2026 meeting with Toledo is their next opportunity to add to the streak.
Meanwhile, Toledo is 1-2 all-time against the ACC. Syracuse was still a member of the Big East during the 2011 meeting, so 2026 marks the Rockets’ fourth ACC matchup, barring a potential bowl game. The Rockets lost a pair of matchups to Miami (FL) in the 2010s but earned their first-ever ACC victory in the record-breaking 2024 GameAbove Sports Bowl vs. Pitt — the first bowl game to extend to six overtimes.
