BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Buffalo Sabres center Tage Thompson is headed to Boston for the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament final, joining Team USA as a reserve, a league source on Wednesday night told WIVB’s Sara Holland.
Earlier in the week, Thompson expressed his wishes to be at the tournament, citing the atmosphere at the games as a motivator.
“It’s been great, [I’ve] been watching all the games, I thought the U.S.-Canada game was awesome,” he said. “If you’re not a hockey fan, that’ll probably get you hooked. I was sitting there wishing I was there a little bit, it was probably an unreal atmosphere.”
The final will feature Team USA in a rematch against Team Canada at Boston’s TD Garden. Team USA won the previous matchup 3-1 at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
New Jersey Devils defenseman Brett Pesce will also be joining the team as a reserve, Sports Illustrated reported Wednesday.
