The Los Angeles Kings forward was a little too aggressive in the tilt against the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday. Tanner Jeannot has been suspended three games for an illegal check to the head. Jeannot had a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Friday.

The hit that led to the suspension occurred in the first period on Thursday. Jeannot’s shoulder made contact with Brock Boeser‘s head in the neutral zone. Boeser spent some time down in the ice before skating off without help. Jeannot was given a match penalty for the illegal hit. Despite being able to skate off without help, Boeser did not return to the game.
Second Punishment in Three Seasons
Jeannot is by no means a frequent flier, when it comes to the Department of Player Safety. However, this is the second time in three seasons Jeannot has been given a punishment. His first came in 2022 when Jeannot was fined $2,000 for kneeing Brady Tkachuk. Now, the forward has been suspended for the first time in his career.
Kings Depth Tested
The Kings are already a forward short. That is now up to two following Jeannot’s suspension. The team are without Alex Turcotte, who is out with an upper-body injury. The injury is not head related. However, there is no timetable for his return.
“There’s always injuries or things that happen during the year,” Kings centre Trevor Lewis said. “You need depth in the organization. Guys to step up. You don’t always fill the holes but I think everyone has to take a collective stand. Pick up for where we need to.”
The Kings next game is Saturday night. It will be interesting to see what roster moves are made to address the holes on the roster. Furthermore, it will be interesting to see how the lineup looks for tomorrow night.
